FAQ
FAQ
What’s Included in the Certification Program?
Our certification coursework is built for busy employers and motivated new hires. Each track includes:
- Short articles, instructional videos, and clear visuals that explain gutter system components, installation basics, and key terms
- Real-world jobsite guidance like how to communicate with crew members, basic safety protocols, and common troubleshooting tips
- Sales and customer education training (for the sales track), including how to explain gutter system value to homeowners and manage expectations
At the end of the coursework, students can take a final exam to earn an official certificate from the Rain Gutter Association, showing they’ve completed a structured learning path and understand the core principles of the trade. For salespeople, this additional documentation can be included in your leave-behinds for customers, alongside items like your warranty and proof of insurance, to provide additional legitimacy to your company. This certificate provides reassurance to the homeowner that their sales rep has been vetted by a third-party.
How long does it take to earn a certification?
The sales and installations courses take about two hours to complete each, and are complete with easy-to-read chapters, hundreds of images demonstrating components and design, and videos. Each section concludes with a quiz, and to finish certification employees must pass an exam—only unlocked upon reading and completing all previous sections.
How many employees can I enroll in the certification program?
Included with your membership is unlimited access to the program for your employees. Just email the director at noah@raingutterassociation.org to add employees. We'll need their names and email to enroll them in the coursework.
Why Does Certification Matter?
1. For Employers: Hiring someone with a pre-employment certification means less time spent on day-one training, and fewer mistakes made on day-one jobs. Certified new hires come in knowing the basics: the parts, the process, and how to work safely as part of a team. It’s a fast-track to productivity and professionalism.
2. For the Industry: Certification helps raise the bar. When gutter companies around the country use a common training standard, it leads to better installs, fewer callbacks, and a more respected trade overall. It also provides a foundation for future training and career growth—think foreman, estimator, or sales manager.
Previous attempts at this—think the SMACNA manual—are too complex for the layperson. RGA coursework is written at a third-grade reading level so anyone can understand the basics.
3. For the Public: Homeowners benefit when the people working on their homes know what they’re doing. Certification offers peace of mind: it shows that the person standing on their roof has taken the time to learn how to do the job right. It also promotes safety, quality, and trust—values every homeowner can get behind.
How Can Employers Use Certifications?
- As a hiring tool – Look for certified candidates to reduce onboarding time
- As an onboarding tool – Assign the coursework to new hires before they begin fieldwork
- As a marketing tool – Show customers your team is trained and certified through the Rain Gutter Association
- As a career ladder – Encourage team members to pursue both sales and installation certifications to grow within your company
Are the certification tracks available in different languages?
This is not something that is currently available, but once we hit a new member threshold we will be adding Spanish-language versions.
